Guest speaker:
Our guest speaker this evening showed the possibilities of technology - when it works well on the night!
Special thanks to Megan Jones.
Meg recorded her presentation as the time difference of 15 hours, made the "live" presentation difficult
- Megan was born in 1991 to Lynne and Wayne Jones, both Rotarians in Portland; a participant of RYLA, Meg completed her secondary education at Ballarat and Clarendon college before moving to Melbourne Monash Uni to study Arts/Law. In 2017 Meg moved to Japan under a JET program, teaching English to the Japanese in preparation for an Olympics event, and spent two years to 2019, meeting partner Alex undertaking the same program, from Canada.
- In 2019 Meg moved to Halifax Nova Scotia, where she has lived since, and admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as an Australian Lawyer in May 2021.
- Living in Halifax on the east coast of Canada, a city of half a million people. A famous landmark is the Star shaped citadel in the city, a building left over from when the France and England fought over the region.
- Halifax is home to one of the largest man made explosions before the atomic bomb - "the Halifax explosion" on Dec 6th 1917 when an ammunition ship and another collided, blinding sightseers with glass.
- Halifax is the closest port where Titanic sank, with many grave sites from the event in the local cemetery.
- Known for its lobster and light houses
Meg works, in what she describes as being absolutely thrilled with a dream job, as a regulatory analyst with the Nova Scotia government. Completing business impact assessments to assess new government changes, and calculating the cost and impact of change on private business and assessing this against a charter of alignment and a government burden reduction target. Meg gets to see all the new planned proposals before the government and the variety is great.
