Meeting 3882
Tonight’s meeting was held at Bayview College in support of their “Students with a cause” trip to Cambodia
Guests: Wendy Taylor, Barb South, Meryl Menzel, Liz Farnsworth, Lyn Murphy, Ceila King, Ron Millard.

Pres Carolyn introduced Zac Jefferies and Kym Mayberry both teachers that have led these student trips to Vietnam then Cambodia since 2012.  The trip is 19 June to 2nd July, on the way over they will have a cultural tour of Singapore before landing in Phnom Penh.  From there they make their way to the Kravanh Bright Future Centre in the Siem Reap region.

The aim of the trip for the students to have a global experience, help people, be taken out of their comfort zone, experience live in another culture, build resilience, teamwork and leadership. They have / are providing events in the town to raise the $9,000 required for the trip, such as this meal (yes it was delicious). The group is composed of 4 adults and 12 students.  The focus of the trip is education, they will be assisting the local Cambodian children with their schooling and English learning.
They have been supported by ‘Days for Girls’ so will be taking hygiene packs with them and providing some education sessions.
Rotary has been a bridge for the group to be able to partner with Sustainable Cambodia, through the NSW Rotary club’s partnership the local Pursat Rotary club
While there the group will purchase bikes & helmets to ride to school each day and then donate them to the school for distribution to students in need.
