We had a successful combined breakfast meeting with a total of 23 Rotarians attending.      Bev McIlroy opened our meeting with an announcement on upcoming community events for Portland Bay.
Marg Wagner then spoke of the District Youth Exchange weekend on the 11th &12th  November which both clubs are involved in the organizing. The district has 4 ongoing students heading overseas in January 2024 & 1 incoming student. This is an opportunity for both clubs to show our stuff.   The event includes official meeting on the Saturday, Dinner Saturday evening followed by Sunday morning concluding about lunchtime. Marg and our Youth “Guru” Brian Murphy are working together
We then received a presentation by Elijah & Ray on the operation of Portland SES unit. Elijah explained to us the types of callouts they respond to including storm & water damage, road accidents, human and animal rescues. He also explained that they have 25 active volunteers and are doing a marketing campaign within the community with the endeavour to gain 6 or more new comers. The current volunteers are generally more senior members and the unit needs younger people.
Ray then informed us of the unit’s history, starting out in a small shed out at the wool stores in 1976, before moving to the former Senior Citizen’s club rooms in 1987. This is their current home. Ray went on to explain the building renovations that have been required to house all of their vehicles and Equipment.
He then showed us the array of Vehicles and equipment that the unit has, and explained that the trend now for new recovery equipment is towards battery operated replacing the need for generators and lengthy cords.

Koroipita 18 August 2023
We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of the K4 STAGE 2 housing project in Koroipita - Model Towns Charitable Trust , a momentous occasion that took place on the 17th of August!
This incredible achievement marks a significant step forward in providing comfortable and sustainable homes for our community. The event was graced by the presence of the Honorable Minister of Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, who emphasised the importance of safe and dignified housing for all.
We were also honored to have Sarah Nisbet the First Secretary of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, join us to celebrate this remarkable achievement. This highlights the collaborative efforts between nations in promoting and supporting initiatives that improve the lives of our citizens.

What else do you do on a wet day - sort bras ready for next year
This email has been sent to all Rotarians in District 9780.

As part of the Regionalisation Pilot, a new way of grouping Rotary and Rotaract clubs will soon be introduced to participating Districts, with each group known as a Rotary Community Group (RCG).

RCGs are designed to foster greater collaboration among clubs so they can work more effectively and at a larger scale than they could on their own.
Working together, clubs will be supported to:
  • Establish larger scale partnerships
  • Increase community impact
  • Build a stronger public profile
  • Attract new club members
  • Increase club member engagement and satisfaction
RCGs will be based on what clubs have in common, such as geography, type of club or shared language. They will meet in person, online, or a combination of both, and will choose how often they meet.

Club Presidents and Secretaries will shortly receive a link via email to an online form through which they can specify how they would like to be grouped with other clubs. Each club will submit one form. Some key points to note:
  • Clubs will be able to nominate both a primary and secondary way they prefer to be grouped. Secondary groupings are optional, will mainly be online and will be based on themes such as the environment; youth; diversity, equity and inclusion, etc.
  • Club input is an essential part of putting RGCs into place. District leaders and the Regionalisation team will use the information provided by clubs to form groupings, accommodating club preferences as much as possible.
  • We encourage clubs to have open discussions about how they would like to be grouped before their preference is submitted.

Reminder: Regional Council Expressions of Interest now open
Are you passionate about making a difference, have a deep understanding of Rotary’s values and have strong leadership skills? If so, you should consider submitting an Expression of Interest to join the Regional Council. We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced Rotarians and Rotaractors to apply for nine elected Regional Council roles.

Position descriptions and selection criteria for each role are available here. Please read these carefully to ensure you are eligible and suitable for your chosen role.
Submit your Expression of Interest by Monday 4 th September 12pm AEST here
