VALE DON ERREY

After such promising news yesterday, unfortunately, Don Errey has passed away this morning. While details are limited at this time, given the sudden circumstances, further information will follow, and this will be shared with members at the earliest opportunity.
Many members have already sent their thoughts and care for Don over the last week or so, which I did convey to Barb on Monday afternoon, on behalf of the club. Since posting through Club runner email to our district executive, messages of condolences are being emailed in return. In consideration for Don our next meeting will be held in his honor.

Social evening at the Botanical Gardens!

  • Great to see so many people and partners at the Botanical gardens social evening. The weather held off and settled down for the club to enjoy a quiet chat and some food down the canal end of the gardens (behind the tennis courts)
  • Thank you to Brenda Eldridge and Phil, who manage the curators cottage and permitted the club after hours entry to the cottage. Such amazing preservation of our historical articles and a step back in time. Well worth the look around and to consider the hardships and activities of the past. Well appreciated by those who attended. On behalf of the members, the club made a donation of $100 towards the activities of he curators cottage as they continue to manage the preservation of the articles on show.
  • We have had a request for assistance at the Victorian Junior Motor Cross championships being held in Portland in February. Marshallers on corners required from 8am to 3pm on February 18th and 19th. Eldo has reminded that we are obligated to an event on the Saturday but if anyone is available at all on Sunday, please advise Eldo. Helpers will be fed and watered! 'Even one extra person would be helpful' (Michael Golby)

Peter Gracias will be circulating a membership survey shortly, as planned, to review the schedule of our meetings - so make sure you complete this when it comes through, so we can move forward positively.

Reminders:

Community Service activities:
Thank you to all who helped out in the Food Van over the last couple of days - many hands make light work and the weekend was a great example of this!

Take a photo-
When there are spare hands - can someone remember to take some photos of the event involving the Rotarians and community? It is great to capture this to add this to the bulletin and record on our website.

Breezy but comfortable - Eileen and Liz enjoying a chat
Lynne, Merle with Tony and Brian comparing notes!
Mmm - looking good Tammy thinks!
The garnment sewing detail is quite intricate, as is the lacework.
The kitchen area with many original pieces of crockery
The curators cottage was originally built in 1859 from bluestone and was occupied by successive curators until 1959. The building has been Heritage listed since 2009.

Lots of trinkets that many members recognised - or still have!
Many thanks to Brenda and Phil for showing us in and explaining some of the history of the curators cottage.
Machinery, saws, washing machines and plowing gear - all part of the collection in the curators cottage -some of which is also housed at history house in Portland Bentinck street.
"1905 - 1995 - This tree was planted by the members of the Rotary Club of Portland to mark the occassion of the 90th Anniversary of Rotary International founded by Paul Harris 23.02.1905)
Prepped up and ready to go!
Liz and Frank - sun smart and helping out with the team.
Waiting for the crowds - couldnt have been a better day to be by the beach!
Mouth 2 Mouth walk at Narrawong - with proceeds going to the Narrawong Nippers program
One of the high lights has been the kids color run - soaked with water on a 34 degree day and puffed with lots of colored paints - it was  perfect conditions for the colored mayhem that ensued!
I'm not sure who had more fun - the runners or the painters!
A thoughtful runner here with the goggles on and happy about it too!

Not sure how we'll get this out in the wash? Separately I hope!

Please note- Our Australia Day breakfast on Thursday 26th January 2023 is a club event and as such there will be no meeting on Monday 30th January.
