  •  Reminder we have District Conference coming up on March 25th & 26th in Ballarat.   Get a group together and car pool
  • Volunteer hours, we keep asking and members keep forgetting to let Veryan know what you have been doing.  If its an organized club event then the leaders will pass on attendance info.  But if you have attended a rotary function / project independently then let Veryan know.
  • Don't forget to do your meeting survey for Rt Peter Gracias
  • We need your bottle tops for "Lids for kids" and bread tags, make sure they are washed then bring to a meeting for collection.
Our Guest Speaker tonight was Samantha (Sam) Sharp CEO of Portland District Health (PDH)since early December 2022.  Sam comes to the position with local knowledge having lived / worked in Portland since 1997, she has qualifications in social welfare and business management.
Sam is proud of the fact that PDH passed accreditation late in 2022 and then Harbourside Lodge passed the new aged care standards on a surprise visit on 3 January 2023.  In both cases there were on formal recommendations received.
The Strategic Plan is due out soon first to the staff followed closely by public viewing.  It will be looking at making the health service sustainable to localized care for the community.   PDH services a large population from birth to our increasing aging members, and must be ready for population increases with tourists.   It needs to look at what services can it realistically provide the community, it is not a large regional hospital so can not provide all services. Partnerships with neighbouring hospitals will be developed or enhanced so that we are providing more.  Already we are able to service our neighbours with high volume low risk surgery.
The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is one of the largest in Victoria, with numbers equal to many ED's and fully staffed 24 /7.  Numbers have increased with the difficulty of community members not being able to access a GP, this is something PDH is also working on.  We have an outstanding medical student / intern model which encourages the doctors to remain in a rural setting, there is hope of duplicating this in allied health and nursing.
In the future PDH is looking at providing their cradle to grave care more use of  digital networks, so that specialists  can view their  patients in a clinic @ PDH from their rooms in metro Melbourne.  Sam would like to see the development of a one hour health network - in one hour you have been assessed at PDH by a specialists locally, on your way to a regional hospital or via telehealth.   We need to enhance the lessons learnt in covid and maximise the investment the community have in PDH.  The need to focus on keeping people well - provide more primary care and keep them out of hospital.

  • Thank you to everyone who came along and helped with the cleanup.  There was less rubbish than last year, still HEAPS of cigarette butts, less fishing line, plenty of McDonalds advertising material, a mattress, disposable nappies, and more hand wipes.  All fisherman along the K S assisted by filling bags from the immediate area.
  • PE Peter Taylor and Tammy went to the scouts meeting and presented the scouts who assisted with certificates, they were very proud of their certificates.

Erin Barker - this is my first attempt at the bulletin in club runner - and the 3rd time I've tried to make things stick where I put them / save them / lose them.  There are photos I can't put in because "it" won't let me.   I will persist.
